South GPCME 2026 returns to Te Pae Christchurch, 13-16 August

MICE editorial — 06 August 2026 Christchurch Tier A

The South Island edition of New Zealand's General Practice Conference & Medical Exhibition brings primary-care teams to Christchurch's Te Pae for four days of clinical updates and a medical trade exhibition.

South GPCME 2026, the South Island edition of New Zealand's General Practice Conference & Medical Exhibition, runs 13-16 August 2026 at Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre. The official site describes it as a practical update for primary-care teams, built around short, clinically relevant sessions with take-home messages, alongside a medical trade exhibition.

Who runs it

The event is part of the long-running GPCME series (gpcme.co.nz), which stages two annual meetings in New Zealand: a North Island edition in Rotorua and this South Island edition in Christchurch. GPCME has historically been held in association with the New Zealand Medical Association. Registration and the 2026 event site are managed through the Cvent platform.

Who it's for

The organiser states the programme is tailored to general practitioners, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, practice managers, pharmacists, health coaches and other healthcare professionals. Content spans clinical updates through to practice management, with speakers, workshops and presentations. Past South GPCME meetings have been endorsed by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and approved for CME/MOPS credits.

The venue

Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre is the city's purpose-built convention centre, located centrally on the banks of the Ōtākaro/Avon River in the rebuilt central city. It offers a large exhibition hall and multiple breakout rooms suited to a concurrent conference-plus-exhibition format, and sits within walking distance of central Christchurch hotels, restaurants and transport.

Why it matters for NZ MICE

South GPCME is an established, recurring medical congress that combines a multi-day CME conference with a sizeable medical exhibition, drawing primary-care delegates from across the South Island and beyond. As an anchor booking for Te Pae, it demonstrates the venue's capacity for professional-association congresses that pair education programmes with trade-floor activity.
