Northern A&P Show brings two days of rural competition to Rangiora Showgrounds, 23–24 October 2026

MICE editorial — 30 September 2026 Rangiora Tier A

The Northern A&P Association Show returns to the Rangiora Showgrounds on 23–24 October 2026, with equestrian competition on the Friday and the full public show day on Saturday — a long-established North Canterbury agricultural show run by the Northern A&P Association.

What it is

The Northern A&P Association Show is North Canterbury's flagship agricultural and pastoral show, held annually at the Rangiora Showgrounds. The 2026 edition runs across two days: Friday 23 October carries equestrian competition with free public entry, and Saturday 24 October is the full show day. The Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand (RAS) lists show hours from around 8:00am Friday through to 5:00pm Saturday.

The show combines competitive agricultural sections with a broad public-facing entertainment programme, drawing exhibitors, competitors and families from across the Waimakariri district and greater Canterbury.

Who runs it

The show is organised by the Northern A&P Association (info@rangiorashow.co.nz, 03 313 6945), one of New Zealand's long-running agricultural societies — its 150th annual show was staged in 2023. The association operates under the national A&P show calendar coordinated by the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand, which lists the event in its series of member shows.

Who it's for and the programme

Per the organiser, the programme spans traditional rural competition and family attractions. Competitive sections include livestock and cattle classes, show hunter and equestrian events, shearing, wood chopping, Highland dancing, and dog trials, alongside produce and craft entries. Public attractions listed by the organiser and the Christchurch City Council event page include a Kids' Zone, live music and entertainment, motorbike stunt riders, mounted games, rare-breed and farmyard displays, pony rides, duck herding, vintage machinery, craft and food markets, and the long-standing crowd-favourite terrier/novelty race. It appeals to rural exhibitors, competitive equestrians and livestock breeders, trade and craft stallholders, and general family visitors.

Venue, movement and access

The show is held at the Rangiora Showgrounds, 156 Ashley Street, Rangiora 7400 (confirmed by the organiser and Christchurch City Council). The showgrounds sit within Rangiora township, roughly a 5–10 minute drive from the town centre and about 30 minutes north of central Christchurch via SH1 and the Waimakariri bridge. As reporting context: Rangiora is served by regional bus links to Christchurch, and the surrounding town offers the main accommodation and hospitality base for North Canterbury (motels and holiday parks in Rangiora, with wider options in Kaiapoi and Christchurch). On-site parking is standard for a showground event of this scale; visitors typically arrive by private vehicle given the semi-rural setting.

Why it matters in NZ MICE

While primarily a public agricultural event, the Rangiora Showgrounds is a significant North Canterbury gathering venue with the open ground, indoor pavilions and trade-site infrastructure used for large-attendance events. For the business-events sector it illustrates the region's capacity to host large trade-exhibitor footprints and multi-day outdoor events close to Christchurch, and the association's stallholder/trade-site operation is a recognised regional exhibition platform.
