Horowhenua A P & I Show 2027: Levin's long-running summer show returns

MICE editorial — 02 November 2026 Levin Tier A

The Horowhenua A.P. & I. Show returns to the Levin Showgrounds on 23-24 January 2027, confirmed on the organising Horowhenua A.P. & I. Association's own site (levinapishow.co.nz). One of New Zealand's longest-running community agricultural shows - the NZ Herald reported the 2024 edition as the 114th - it gathers cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, alpacas and poultry alongside dog trials, shearing, woodchopping, home industries, trade stands and an animal nursery, at 33 Victoria Street in Levin, about 90 minutes north of Wellington.

The Horowhenua A.P. & I. Show is a community agricultural, pastoral and industrial show held each January at the Levin Showgrounds. The organising Horowhenua A.P. & I. Association confirms on its website (levinapishow.co.nz) that the 2027 show falls on the 23rd and 24th of January 2027, with section schedules due to be posted online from November. It is a town-meets-country event built around livestock judging, rural competitions and family entertainment.

Who runs it

The show is run by the Horowhenua A.P. & I. Association (Agricultural, Pastoral & Industrial), which publishes the programme and section entries through its own site, levinapishow.co.nz, and its Facebook page. The NZ Herald has described the Levin show as "steeped in history" and "long regarded as one of the best in the circuit," reporting the 2024 event as the 114th annual show and noting volunteers such as Barry Mansell, who had helped run it for 60 years. In recent years the association has also hosted the Royal A&P Show of New Zealand under the Royal Agricultural Society (ras.org.nz) banner.

Who it's for

The show is pitched at breeders, exhibitors and the wider Horowhenua public alike. The association's programme lists sections for beef and dairy cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, donkeys, alpacas and poultry, plus dog trials and home industries, drawing serious livestock and competition entrants. For general visitors, the NZ Herald has reported showjumping, woodchopping and shearing competitions, a trade section of more than 50 exhibitors, vintage machinery, a parade of old trucks and tractors, amusement rides, live music and food stalls.

The venue and getting there

The show is held at the Levin Showgrounds, 33 Victoria Street, Levin, the association's permanent grounds. Levin is the main town of the Horowhenua district in the lower North Island, roughly 90 minutes' drive north of Wellington on State Highway 1 and about an hour south of Palmerston North. The town sits on the main road and rail spine between Wellington and Manawatu, and offers motels and holiday-park accommodation for visitors travelling in for the weekend. (Access and accommodation details here are background context only.)

Why it matters for NZ business events

As a century-old annual fixture with established showgrounds, livestock facilities and a large trade-exhibitor footprint, the Horowhenua A.P. & I. Show demonstrates Levin's capacity to stage a multi-day outdoor event drawing exhibitors and crowds from across the region. For the New Zealand business-events sector it is a marker of the Horowhenua's rural-events infrastructure and its position on the Wellington-Manawatu corridor, rather than a conference or incentive venue in its own right.
