ICCBEI 2027: civil and building engineering informatics comes to Auckland

MICE editorial — 01 November 2026 Auckland Tier A

ICCBEI 2027 is the 7th International Conference on Civil and Building Engineering Informatics, held 20–22 January 2027 at the University of Auckland's Owen G Glenn Building — an international academic congress on digital engineering for the built environment, organised by the Asian Group for Civil Engineering Informatics.

ICCBEI 2027 is the 7th International Conference on Civil and Building Engineering Informatics, a biennial international research congress that for the first time comes to New Zealand. According to its official site, the conference runs from 20 to 22 January 2027 at the Owen G Glenn Building on the University of Auckland's city campus, bringing together academics and industry researchers working on information and communication technologies applied to civil, building and environmental engineering. It is a peer-reviewed academic meeting rather than a trade show, drawing a global community around the digital transformation of the architecture, engineering, construction and operations (AECO) sector.

Who's behind it

The ICCBEI series is organised by AGCEI, the Asian Group for Civil Engineering Informatics, with the University of Auckland hosting the 2027 edition. The series has long been run in partnership with the Japan Society of Civil Engineers' Committee on Civil Engineering Informatics, which co-organised earlier editions such as ICCBEI 2019 in Sendai. The 2027 organising committee, as listed on the official site, is led by Prof. Robert Amor of the University of Auckland as Honorary Chair, with Prof. Yang Zou of Loughborough University as Conference Chair, and Co-Chairs A/Prof. Brian Guo (University of Canterbury) and Prof. Nobuyoshi Yabuki (Tokyo City University). The conference is a well-established fixture in the field: the immediately preceding 6th edition, ICCBEI 2025, was held in January 2025 in Hong Kong via HKUST, and the series stretches back to its first edition in 2013, rotating between host cities across the Asia-Pacific.

Who it's for

The conference is aimed at researchers, academics and advanced practitioners in civil and building engineering informatics, and its official site states that participants from all over the world are welcome. Its programme is organised into 11 thematic tracks spanning AI and data intelligence for AECO, digital twins and information modelling, sensing, reality capture and geospatial analytics, robotics, autonomy and human-centred interaction, construction delivery and supply chains, safety and well-being, visualisation and extended reality, asset and infrastructure management, digital sustainability, smart and resilient cities, and technology adoption and governance. Papers follow a formal academic process: an optional abstract by 31 March 2026 and full paper submission by 13 August 2026.

The venue and getting there

The conference is based at the Sir Owen G Glenn Building, the University of Auckland Business School's landmark building on the university's city campus, on the eastern edge of the Auckland central business district. The site sits within walking distance of the CBD, where a large concentration of hotels and serviced accommodation is clustered, and the conference gala dinner is set for the New Zealand International Convention Centre on Hobson Street in the central city. Auckland Airport lies roughly 21 kilometres south of the CBD, typically a 30 to 45 minute road trip depending on traffic, and is linked to the city by motorway and public transport. Delegates arriving internationally generally transit through the central city, from which the university campus is readily reached on foot or by short local transport. These are logistical notes for attendees, not endorsements of any particular transfer or accommodation provider.

Why it matters for New Zealand MICE

Securing the ICCBEI series for 2027 marks the first time this international engineering-informatics congress has been held in New Zealand, a meaningful win for Auckland's academic-conference credentials. Hosting it at the University of Auckland links the country into a global research network spanning Asia, Europe and North America, and brings an audience of overseas academics and industry researchers into the city in late summer. Conferences of this kind — internationally rotated, university-anchored and tied to published proceedings — reinforce New Zealand's standing as a credible destination for specialist knowledge events, and feed directly into the business-events pipeline that higher-education institutions and the national MICE sector rely on.
