National Trauma Symposium 2026

MICE editorial — 07 October 2026 Wellington Tier A

A one-day national trauma-care congress at the InterContinental Wellington, convened by the Trauma National Clinical Network under Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora.

Towards Excellence: a national trauma-care congress

The National Trauma Symposium 2026, themed "Towards Excellence", takes place on Thursday 5 November 2026 at the InterContinental Hotel in Wellington. It is a one-day national gathering for New Zealand's trauma care community, spanning care from the roadside through to rehabilitation.

Who runs it

The symposium is organised by the National Trauma Symposium 2026 Organising Committee together with the Trauma National Clinical Network, with Workz4U Conference Management acting as the professional conference organiser. The Trauma National Clinical Network is one of the national clinical networks operating under Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, which gives the event official standing within the country's trauma-system governance rather than being a commercial congress.

Who it is for and the programme

The organisers invite trauma care practitioners of all kinds, as well as people interested in starting a career in trauma. The day combines scientific presentations, facilitated debate on current topics and "wananga spaces" for sharing lessons learnt. Announced themes include dealing with disasters (mass casualty and mass events, including weather and climate), "low falls, high impact", high-performing teams in high-stakes environments and High Acuity Low Occurrence (HALO) situations, and complex extremity injury. A call for abstracts runs from May to August 2026, with early-bird registration closing on 5 October 2026.

The venue

As reporting context, the InterContinental Wellington sits on Grey Street in the Wellington CBD, close to the waterfront, Lambton Quay and the city's financial district. It is a short drive from Wellington Airport and within easy reach of Wellington Railway Station and the central bus network, making it straightforward for domestic delegates flying in from across the motu. The hotel provides on-site accommodation, and central Wellington offers additional lodging within walking distance.

Why it matters in NZ MICE

As a nationally coordinated medical and scientific congress tied to a Te Whatu Ora clinical network, the symposium is a recurring fixture that draws clinicians, researchers and emergency-response professionals to Wellington, reinforcing the capital's role as a hub for health-sector and government-adjacent conferences.
