Wairoa A&P Show 2027: a 125-year-old show seeks a new home

MICE editorial — 31 October 2026 Wairoa Tier C

A 2027 edition of the historic Wairoa A&P Show is not yet confirmed: organisers stated the January 2026 125th-anniversary show was the last at the Ruataniwha Road showgrounds, which are being taken for the Wairoa Flood Mitigation Project. The 2027 date and venue remain undecided.

The Wairoa A&P Show is a long-running agricultural and pastoral show staged by the Wairoa Agricultural and Pastoral Society since 1899, held in mid-January and centred on shearing, equestrian, rodeo, livestock judging and trade displays. For 2027, however, neither the date nor the venue is yet confirmed: organisers have publicly stated that the January 2026 (125th-anniversary) show was the final show at the Ruataniwha Road showgrounds, because the site is being acquired for the Wairoa Flood Mitigation Project and will largely become a flood spillway. The Society is in talks about relocating, with Te Kupenga Racecourse the leading option, and decisions were still pending at the time of writing. The listed 15 January 2027 date and "Wairoa Showgrounds" venue therefore cannot yet be relied upon and should be confirmed with the Society closer to the date. For context, the nearest airports are Wairoa (regional), Gisborne and Napier.
