Wanganui A&P Show 2026

MICE editorial — 12 October 2026 Whanganui Tier B

The Wanganui A&P Show returns to the Wanganui Racecourse Oval on 14–15 November 2026, a volunteer-run agricultural and pastoral show with a strong equestrian programme; confirmed via the Royal Agricultural Society of NZ listing.

Wanganui A&P Show 2026

The Wanganui A&P Show is scheduled for Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November 2026 at the Wanganui Racecourse Oval on Purnell Street, Whanganui, running from 8:00am on the Saturday through to 5:00pm on the Sunday. The dates, times and venue are confirmed through the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand's event listing, where the 2026 show is recorded as part of an annual series; detailed schedules and results are still marked TBC.

Who runs it

The show is organised by the Whanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association. According to Whanganui High School reporting, the association is a charity run by a five-member volunteer committee that spends around ten months each year planning the event. The Royal Agricultural Society listing names Debbie Marie Hirini as the show contact.

Who it's for and what's on

The association runs a strongly equestrian programme. Whanganui High School's 2019 report describes flat classes (judged on the movement, conformation, temperament and presentation of horse or pony and rider), show jumping, show hunter courses, and a Horse and Pony High Jump staged on the Saturday evening. That year the show attracted 430 horses and 305 riders, with numbers holding up even through Sunday rain, pointing to a committed competitive following across the lower North Island.

Venue and access

The Wanganui Racecourse Oval sits on Purnell Street in Whanganui, the same racecourse grounds used by the city's racing community, placing the showgrounds close to the city itself. Whanganui is served by State Highways 3 and 4 and has a range of accommodation and services within the urban area for competitors and visitors travelling in for the weekend. These details are reported here as neutral context for attendees rather than as any travel arrangement.

Why it matters

Agricultural and pastoral shows are a long-running fixture of New Zealand's rural calendar, and the Whanganui show's equestrian focus gives the region a recognised late-spring competition on the racecourse grounds. As a volunteer-led charitable event with deep local roots, it remains part of the fabric of Whanganui's primary-industry and equestrian community.
