Aquinas Action Centre is a modern indoor sports facility at 183 Pyes Pa Road, Tauranga, set in the grounds of Aquinas College. It is a community-share facility operated by Bay Venues, a Tauranga City Council organisation, and is available for public hire outside college use.
The centre is built around a full-sized indoor court that can be configured for basketball, netball, volleyball and badminton, and is also used by codes such as football and martial arts. A retractable grandstand seats over 450 spectators, though capacity is reduced when the court is set up for basketball or netball and the seating cannot be fully deployed. Listed total venue capacity is 868, with 486 grandstand seats.
Access is shaped around the school timetable. During term time Aquinas College has exclusive use weekdays 9am–5.15pm, and until 10pm on Thursdays. Public hire windows are Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 6am–8.30am and 5.15pm–10pm, and weekends and school holidays 6am–10pm. Staffing charges may apply. Keys are collected by appointment from the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre in central Tauranga.
Aquinas is primarily a sports venue — small to medium tournaments, club fixtures, training and social leagues — and its flat, open floor plus grandstand also lends itself to large-format gatherings such as prizegivings, expos and exhibitions where a big clear-span space is needed. It is not set up as a conference or meeting venue, and there are no dedicated meeting rooms or catering kitchen listed, so event organisers should plan for external catering. For sport-led events on the southern side of the city, it is one of the more capable options among Tauranga venues.
