Ashburton Aviation Museum is a community-run aviation heritage attraction in Mid Canterbury, located on Seafield Road, Elgin, near Ashburton Airport. The museum marked its 50th anniversary in 2024.
The museum says it holds one of the largest collections of aircraft in the country, with more than 40 preserved aircraft including rare historical examples. Displays also include cockpits, a Soviet satellite "space ball" from Cosmos 482 (1972) and a vintage control tower. A flight simulator provides a hands-on element, and the museum is developing a new complex with a transparent roof to display its collection.
The museum is open seven days a week, with hours varying by day (most afternoons, with longer hours on Wednesday and Saturday). Admission is charged, with free entry for young children and family packages available. Check the website for current hours and prices.
The museum's website does not list function hire or capacity details, so it is best considered a group-visit or social-programme attraction rather than a dedicated meeting venue. Groups wanting a private visit or event should contact the museum directly to confirm what is possible.
