Ciao is a neighbourhood restaurant on Welles Street in central Christchurch, within The Welder complex. The kitchen draws on European cooking with an Italian emphasis.
The menu covers fresh pasta and seasonal small plates, with a rotating wine list spanning Europe and New Zealand. The restaurant trades across the day, from morning espresso through to evening shared dishes.
Opening hours are Tuesday and Wednesday 10am to 9.30pm, Thursday 10am to 10.30pm, and Friday and Saturday 10am to 11pm. It is closed Sunday and Monday.
Ciao is operated by hospitality operators Nikki and Toby Eaton, who are also behind the Christchurch venues Kokomo and Rascal.
No dedicated private dining rooms or function capacities are publicly advertised. For meetings and events organisers, Ciao is best treated as a central-city option for small group dinners, client hospitality and informal team meals — particularly for delegates staying in the central city, given The Welder's position as a compact food and drink precinct that makes it easy to move a group between venues across an evening.
Group bookings should be arranged directly with the restaurant. Note that the Sunday and Monday closure needs to be factored into conference programming.
