About Colonial House Motel

About this place

Colonial House Motel is at 178 Kerikeri Road, Kerikeri, in the Bay of Islands, Northland – not in Whangārei itself, so allow roughly an hour and a half of driving between the two if you are building a Northland programme. The motel sits on a 1.5 acre site, hidden from the road by a long driveway leading into established sub-tropical gardens with abundant birdlife. It is positioned about halfway between Kerikeri town and the historic Stone Store. Hosts are Mark Gray and Paula Walker.

### The offer

The layout is unusual for a motel: no more than two units per building, with most units effectively stand-alone houses or cottages. All units are ground floor with private patios, are self-contained and are serviced daily. Six room types are listed:

  • Executive Studio – 2 guests
  • Spa Studio – 2 guests
  • Access Studio – 2 guests, designed for disabled guests
  • One Bedroom Suite – 3 guests
  • Two Bedroom Cottage – 4 guests, beside the pool
  • Two Bedroom Family Unit – 6 guests

Studios, one-bedroom and family suites have been renovated with redesigned bathrooms and kitchens.

### Facilities

Rooms have air conditioning, cooking facilities, microwave, kettle, tea, coffee, sugar and condiments, cookies and bottled water, with all linen, towels and bathroom amenities provided. There is free fast WiFi and 40-inch smart TVs with Netflix and YouTube. Shared facilities include a saltwater pool, BBQ, guest laundry and ample parking in front of the rooms, with room for boats. Cots, bassinets, highchairs and board games are available. Guests are welcomed with a complimentary wine or beer. Office hours are 8.00am to 8.00pm.

The motel publishes special rates for corporate guests and SuperGold Card holders. Smoking is not permitted inside rooms.

### Meetings and events capability

No conference rooms, AV or delegate packages are advertised. The property's role is as accommodation – particularly for small groups that benefit from the privacy of separate cottages and ground-floor access, and for organisers who need a genuine accessible unit in the Bay of Islands. Nearby points of interest include the Stone Store and Kemp House, St James Church, Kingston House and the Rainbow Falls Trail, with the town centre and supermarket about a ten-minute walk away.

### Suitability

Well suited to small incentive groups, executive retreats requiring privacy rather than plenary space, partner programmes and delegate accommodation for events in the Bay of Islands. Not a fit for conferences needing on-site meeting rooms.
