The Cornershop Bistro operated at 32 Nayland Street, in the seaside village of Sumner, Christchurch. It was a neighbourhood bistro that drew custom from across the city, serving European and contemporary New Zealand dishes, with dinner service and a weekend brunch trade. Published guides recorded it as chef-owned and noted a seasonal approach to the menu built around locally grown and reared produce, with dishes such as fish of the day and slow-cooked lamb shoulder, and it was listed among Canterbury restaurants recommended by Cuisine magazine.
The business no longer trades. The Nayland Street premises were sold and the site has since been occupied by a different, unrelated restaurant under new ownership. The former web address, cornershopbistro.co.nz, is no longer controlled by the restaurant and now resolves to unrelated third-party content, so it should not be used as a contact point or linked from directory entries.
As the venue is not operating, it cannot be assessed for group dining, private functions or corporate events. Anyone planning an event in this part of the city should look to currently trading Christchurch venues instead.
