Dunedin Leisure Lodge - A Distinction Hotel is a 76-room garden hotel at 30 Duke Street, set in roughly two acres of gardens and lawns next to the Dunedin Botanic Garden. It is about six minutes' drive from the city centre and within walking distance of Tuhura Otago Museum, the University of Otago and Forsyth Barr Stadium. The property is part of the New Zealand owned and operated Distinction Hotels Group, which the hotel notes purchased it, and it markets itself as Dunedin's only garden hotel.
76 rooms and suites, spanning Standard King, Standard Twin, Standard Family, Superior King, Superior Twin/Queen, Superior Suite and Superior One-Bedroom Studio. Standard inclusions across the hotel are:
Superior Rooms add upgraded linen and mattress toppers, and a patio or balcony facing the lawns and gardens.
The hotel has two dedicated function rooms, handled by an in-house functions specialist, with a downloadable conference pack.

The McGavin Room is the larger space, on the first floor, with natural light, air-conditioning and a balcony overlooking the gardens. It works as a daytime meeting, seminar or conference room and as an evening dinner or cocktail venue for up to 100 guests.
The Oast House is an original building from the McGavin Brewery, with bluestone walls and a gas fire. It suits smaller meetings, private dinners and ceremonies.
Enquiries go to the functions specialist on +64 3 477 5360 or conference@dunedinleisurelodge.co.nz.
The hotel also promotes itself as an all-weather wedding venue, using the lawns and established gardens for ceremonies and photography with indoor function space as the backup.
McGavin's Restaurant & Bar is the hotel's in-house outlet, open daily for breakfast and dinner:
The menu is built on local ingredients with local and international wine and beer. There is a garden bar and al fresco dining in warmer months.
The lodge was established in 1978 on the former site of the McGavin Brewery, described by the hotel as one of Dunedin's original breweries and at one time New Zealand's largest. The brewery produced its last beer in 1958 and was relocated to Speight's Brewery in 1971. The stone Oast House - a former malting kiln from the brewery - was retained and redeveloped as the hotel's smaller function venue, which is why the name carries through to both the restaurant and the main function room.
Qualmark 4-star rated, and listed by Distinction Hotels Group within its 4-star Silver Collection.
A good fit for meetings, seminars, training days and conferences of up to about 100 delegates, and for residential programmes where the 76 rooms, free parking and on-site restaurant keep everything on one site. The garden setting, heritage Oast House and proximity to the Botanic Garden and Otago Peninsula attractions also make it a workable base for incentive groups and awards or gala dinners at the smaller end of the market.
