About Edgewater

Edgewater is a lakefront hotel and resort at 54 Sargood Drive, on the shore of Lake Wanaka. It sits on a low-rise site of roughly four hectares (about 10 acres), around four minutes' drive from Wanaka township or a 20-minute walk along the lake track. The mix of hotel rooms, suites and self-contained apartments, plus dedicated conference space and on-site recreation, makes it one of the more complete residential conference and incentive options in the Upper Clutha.

Meetings and events

Edgewater's principal function space is The Pavilion, on the ground floor, with extensive natural light, views of Lake Wanaka through the poplars, and modern AV equipment. The hotel positions it for conferences, trade shows, meetings, lunches, dinners and prize-givings, and an adjoining space known as the Alcove is used for private dining with views across the gardens to the mountains. Lake Wanaka's official destination site describes Edgewater's conference facilities as flexible enough for meetings from four to 140 delegates, and notes a fully equipped boardroom alongside The Pavilion.

A conference and functions package is downloadable from the hotel's website, and enquiries are handled by a dedicated wedding and events team at events@edgewater.co.nz. Published packages cover conference planning, special occasions, and workshops and meetings.

The hotel publishes client feedback from corporate and association business including a Parkinson's conference and a SOLGM conference, both referencing catering standards and on-site event co-ordination. Weddings are a significant part of the business, from elopements through to multi-day events, and the hotel also hosts community and cultural events.

Food and beverage

The Edgewater Restaurant is open daily from 7.00am until late, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with seasonal menus and an outdoor terrace overlooking the lake. Executive Chef Chris Nelson leads a contemporary, Central Otago-sourced menu that changes each season, with a stated whole-animal, low-waste approach and an emphasis on local suppliers. In-room dining is served from 5.00pm to 8.30pm, and a Night Owl menu runs from late until 7.00am. The hotel also maintains a published sustainability position tied to its local sourcing.

History

The site was identified in the 1970s as a four-hectare block with uninterrupted views to the lake edge. The development was funded by 57 shareholders across 65 titles covering a total of 106 rooms. Edgewater opened for business in July 1986 - described by the hotel as Wanaka's second hotel established in 100 years - following an inauguration by the then Minister of Tourism, the Rt Hon Mike Moore. Through the 1990s it became a well-used local venue for televised rugby, snow balls and New Year celebrations. The hotel also acknowledges the site's deeper history in the Waitaha tradition of Rakaihautu and Wanaka as a place of wananga, or learning.

Suitability

A strong fit for corporate retreats, incentive programmes, board meetings, workshops and small-to-mid-sized conferences of up to around 140 delegates, particularly where organisers want delegates accommodated, catered and hosted on a single lakefront site. The tennis courts, putting green, bikes, petanque, hot tubs and sauna give ready-made team-building and downtime options without leaving the property, and the heli-pad and Queenstown airport access suit incentive itineraries built around Central Otago.
