Fable Terrace Downs is a golf resort in the Canterbury high country at Windwhistle, roughly an hour's drive from Christchurch, set at the foothills of the Southern Alps. It suits golf-focused incentive groups, corporate retreats and leisure guests wanting a self-contained rural resort rather than a city hotel, offering 49 villa-style rooms.
Accommodation is in luxury villas designed for a range of guest types, from couples to larger groups.
The resort has multiple event spaces, bookable individually or with the whole resort reserved for a single group, and can accommodate up to 80 guests across configurations including classroom, boardroom, U-shape and theatre style. It hosts corporate meetings, conferences, incentive programmes, golf tournaments and functions, supported by shuttle transfers and helicopter or jet-boat add-ons, plus team activities such as a "Mini Olympics" combining clay bird shooting, archery and golf challenges.
Terrace Downs' signature feature is its 18-hole, par-72 championship golf course, designed by Sid Puddicombe, with a parkland front nine and a Scottish links-style back nine set among high-country mountain and river-canyon views. A driving range and on-site golf coaching are available.
The resort has its own restaurant and bar, plus wedding and events services and a recreational activities programme; the clubhouse serves drinks, though the course itself has a no-alcohol policy for players.
Fable Terrace Downs is part of Fable Hotels & Resorts, the boutique New Zealand brand created by CPG Hotels in 2020, which also operates hotels in Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin.
With its dedicated event spaces, whole-resort buyout option and championship golf course, Fable Terrace Downs is well suited to residential conferences, corporate golf days and incentive programmes in the Canterbury high country.
