The Golden Turmeric is an Indian restaurant at 3/61 Williams Street in Kaiapoi, a Waimakariri town about 20 km north of central Christchurch. It takes its name from turmeric, described on the restaurant's own site as the "Golden Spice of India", and builds its menu around home-style Indian cooking using recipes the owners say have been passed down through generations.
The offer
The menu covers tandoori starters, curries, breads and sharing plates. Listed items include chicken tikka marinated in yoghurt and spices and cooked in the tandoor, cheese and garlic naan, poppadoms, house-made mint chutney and mango lassi. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available. The restaurant serves lunch from 11.30am to 2pm and dinner from 4.30pm to 9pm, and is closed on Mondays. Online ordering and takeaway are available through the restaurant's own website.
Groups and functions
The Golden Turmeric does not publish private dining rooms, function capacities or set group menus. It is a neighbourhood restaurant rather than a dedicated events venue, so planners wanting a group booking or catering should contact the restaurant directly on 03 327 8800 or by email to confirm what can be arranged and how large a table the room can take.
Suitability for MICE
Most useful as an off-site dinner option for small delegate groups staying in or travelling through North Canterbury, or as a supplier to approach for Indian catering menus. Capacity and group arrangements should be confirmed before committing.
