GPO is the signature restaurant of the InterContinental Wellington, at 2 Grey Street in the central city. The name is a nod to the general post office that once occupied the site, and the venue is a refreshed, rebranded evolution of the hotel's previous in-house restaurant.
The menu draws on southern European, Levantine and Mediterranean influences, combining smaller tapas- and mezze-style plates with larger dishes such as hand-rolled pastas and pasture-raised meats, all built around seasonal and sustainably sourced New Zealand produce. Seafood is a particular focus, showcased in a signature 'fruits of the sea' platter, with ingredients traced to specific suppliers around Aotearoa. The kitchen is led by executive chef Carl Maunder and matched by an extensive cellar.
As a five-star hotel restaurant in the heart of Wellington, GPO benefits from the InterContinental's wider conference, banqueting and accommodation facilities.
For MICE organisers, it suits business breakfasts and lunches, delegate and client dinners, and pre- or post-event dining, with the full-service hotel able to support larger meetings and residential conferences. See more Wellington venues for events across the region.
