About Judge House of Ale

The Judge House of Ale is a locally owned pub in central Whangārei, on Walton Street in the Vinetown area of the CBD. It is within walking distance of the main shopping centre and close to the Town Basin and the Hundertwasser Art Centre.

The building

The building dates to 1891 and served as Whangārei's first courthouse, which accounts for the pub's name. Before becoming a pub it was used as a second-hand dealership, a funeral parlour and a real estate agency.

Food and drink

The pub offers a casual dining menu, New Zealand classic beers on tap and a selection of NZ wines. Facilities include a garden bar, big-screen sport, a TAB kiosk and a gaming room. Free customer parking is provided. The venue has hosted events such as an Oktoberfest day in partnership with local breweries.

Groups and functions

The venue invites enquiries for table bookings and functions. No capacity or private-hire details are published, so group size and room options should be confirmed with the venue directly.
