About

About Miss Peppercorn

Miss Peppercorn is a modern Chinese eatery in seaside Sumner, at 32 Nayland Street, that has built a quiet cult following since opening in 2018. Owners Huiming Lin and Ciya Huang are originally from Guangdong in southern China and share a love of Sichuan cooking: Lin runs the kitchen while Huang manages front of house and makes the noodles.

The food is inspired by Sichuan street food — bold, spicy and characteristically numbing — with dumplings, noodles, pancakes and a wide range of authentic dishes. Much is made by hand, from dumplings and noodles to sauces, which the owners see as essential to the right texture and flavour. The restaurant has earned a Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice award, placing it among the top tier of reviewed venues.

Miss Peppercorn trades Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays), with weekend lunch and dinner sittings. Its distinctive regional cuisine makes it a characterful choice for group dinners and casual functions in Christchurch's eastern bays.
