Mount Maunganui Sport & Recreation Centre

Mount Maunganui Sport & Recreation Centre sits on the corner of Maunganui Road and Hull Road in Mount Maunganui, on the same grounds as the local tennis, netball, squash and hockey clubs, Bay Oval and the Adams Centre for High Performance. It is operated by Bay Venues, a Tauranga City Council organisation, and is available for hire seven days a week, 6am to 12am.

Spaces and capacity

The centre is built around one full-sized indoor court, marked for basketball, netball, volleyball and badminton and readily adapted to other codes. A spacious mezzanine area overlooks the court and provides comfortable spectator space — it also works as a separate area for hospitality or registration during an event.

Listed capacity is 972, with 50 grandstand seats. The venue holds 20 tables and 100 chairs for hirers' use.

Facilities

• Catering: a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering, plus a separate kitchenette on the mezzanine — unusually good catering infrastructure for a sports centre, and the main reason it works for non-sporting functions.
• Amenities: changing facilities on site and wheelchair access.
• Parking: 140 carparks.
• Alcohol: the centre and surrounding area is an Alcohol Free Zone.
• Access: keys are collected from a lockbox, with the code supplied at your venue induction. A bond is required for all hire.

What it suits

The centre handles medium-sized sporting events, tournaments, training and social leagues, and the combination of a large clear-span floor, mezzanine and two kitchen areas also makes it viable for dance recitals, small exhibitions and trade displays, prizegivings, large community meetings and social functions. It is not a fitted-out conference venue — there are no dedicated meeting rooms or listed AV — so expect to bring in equipment for anything presentation-heavy.

With generous parking, all-day availability and a central Mount location close to local amenities, it is one of the more convenient large-floor options among Tauranga venues.
