Papamoa Sports & Recreation Centre sits inside Gordon Spratt Reserve at 80 Alice Lane, off Parton Road, Papamoa, a few minutes from Papamoa Beach. It is operated by Bay Venues, the Tauranga City Council organisation responsible for 24 community facilities across Tauranga Moana, and functions as the base for much of Papamoa's organised sport and recreation as well as a general-purpose function venue.
### Spaces
Seven room options are available for hire, and the whole venue can be booked out for a single event. The two largest spaces are separated by a dividable wall and can be merged for a bigger group, which gives an organiser genuine flexibility between plenary and breakout configurations.
Published room areas include the combined Surfbreaker and Dunes space at 272 square metres, Dunes on its own at 110 square metres, Driftwood at 72 square metres and Shoreline at 38 square metres, with a small meeting space of 7.5 square metres at the other end of the scale. Other named rooms include Seashells and Beachside. A floor plan is published by the venue.
### Capacity and facilities
The centre is listed with a capacity of 379 standing, 40 tables and 200 chairs. There are 123 car parks on site, which is a substantial advantage over most suburban venues and removes a common headache for large daytime events.
A commercial kitchen and a fully licensed bar are on site. Organisers can self-cater, bring in a commercial caterer, or use the bar for functions. Listed amenities include air conditioning, whiteboards, wi-fi, accessible toilets and wheelchair access. The centre also has a dance studio space. A bond is required for functions, refunded after a post-event venue check provided there is no damage.
### Meetings and events
The centre is used for private functions including weddings, birthday parties and work events, as well as regular community activity ranging from dance classes and garden clubs to support groups and indoor bowls. For MICE purposes, the mix of a large divisible main room, several mid-sized rooms, a small meeting room, a commercial kitchen, a licensed bar and abundant parking covers conferences, seminars, training days, workshops, AGMs, awards evenings and staff functions. The dividable wall makes it practical to run a plenary in the morning and split into concurrent sessions after lunch.
The sporting setting also supports post-match and end-of-season gatherings, and the surrounding reserve gives scope for outdoor team-building or activity components alongside an indoor meeting programme.
### Booking
The centre is staffed Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 3.00pm, and is available for hire seven days a week. Availability can be checked online by hireable area, and Bay Venues publishes its user fees and charges and terms and conditions of hire as downloadable documents. Wedding, celebration and event packages are handled through the Bay Venues bookings team. For comparable options, see our venue directory.
