Quarry Arts Centre is a community arts hub in Whangārei, built on the site of a former abandoned quarry and now described as "Northland's Creative Hub for Community and the Arts." It sits alongside the neighbouring Whangarei Quarry Gardens in the Kensington area.
The centre houses the Yvonne Rust Gallery and exhibition spaces, artist studios, wood-fired, electric and raku kilns available for community pottery firing, a retail outlet (The Maker's Shop), a well-stocked art and pottery supply store, and an on-site café, Amber's Kitchen.
Programming spans ceramics workshops, life drawing and painting classes, hardstone carving instruction, school holiday programmes, artist residencies and a formal Ceramics Diploma. The centre also runs regular exhibitions and community events such as its annual Great Plate fundraiser.
With its gallery and studio spaces, Quarry Arts Centre suits creative team-building activities, exhibitions and smaller functions for groups wanting a genuinely local, arts-based Northland experience alongside more conventional meeting venues.
