SBS St James Theatre is a cinema at 61 Irk Street, Gore, a short step off the town's main street. It opened in 1936, was substantially renovated in 2008, and is described as the last remaining cinema in a town that once had four. It is managed by a community trust.
The theatre has two auditoriums with a combined 516 seats: Cinema 1 seats 436 and Cinema 2 seats 80. Both screens use Dolby 7.1 sound, and Cinema 1 has wheelchair access.
The venue is primarily a working cinema, so it suits private screenings, group outings and presentation-style gatherings in Eastern Southland. Availability, hire terms and any audiovisual options are not published in the sources reviewed, so organisers should confirm details with the theatre directly (03 208 7396).
Gore is the main service town of Eastern Southland, and the theatre is a useful add-on for groups visiting the district. See other Southland venues.
