Story is an intimate fine-dining restaurant at 8 New Regent Street in central Christchurch, seating around 22 guests. It occupies a restored 1930s building on one of the city's best-known heritage streets, with navy walls and ceilings, timber floors and a staircase, and warm, low lighting.
Story is the creation of chef Shafeeq Ismail and is built around a "Trust the Chef" seasonal tasting menu that changes monthly. The kitchen celebrates New Zealand food and beverage culture, sourcing directly from local farmers, growers, butchers, cheesemakers, fisheries, winemakers, brewers and distillers. The restaurant also serves as a platform for visiting chefs. It is open for dinner Wednesday to Saturday, and because of the small dining room, reservations are recommended.
