About

About Taupō Museum

Taupō Museum is on Story Place in central Taupō, between the Superloo and the town's Rose Gardens, and holds exhibits covering the region's Māori heritage and volcanic history, including traditional carvings, artefacts and community stories, plus a Kiwiana caravan display.

The museum's grounds include the Ora Garden of Wellbeing, recognised as a Garden of National Significance, and two art galleries available for hire, alongside a museum shop, He Tāonga Iti, selling New Zealand gifts. Educational programmes and interactive activities are offered for school groups and children.

Beyond its core exhibits, Taupō Museum hires out its galleries for workshops, small functions and weddings, giving event organisers a genuinely cultural venue option in central Taupō for smaller gatherings tied to a museum setting.
