The Birdwood is a neighbourhood cafe, bar and pizzeria on the corner at 76 Malcolm Avenue, Beckenham, in Christchurch's southern suburbs.
It operates in two modes across the day. By day it runs as a cafe serving seasonal food, house-roasted Triumphant coffee and smoothies. From the afternoon, the pizzeria and bar on the other side of the building open up, with a wood-fired pizza oven firing and a menu that extends to handmade pasta and antipasti. Between the two sides it covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, bar snacks and drinks.
The venue is well established with local residents rather than being a destination dining room, and the food is casual Italian-leaning cafe and pizzeria fare.
For MICE organisers. Beckenham is a residential suburb a short drive south of the Christchurch CBD, on the way toward the Port Hills. The Birdwood suits informal use - a relaxed team lunch, a breakfast meeting, or a low-key dinner for a small group staying outside the central city - rather than a formal conference dinner.
Published information does not set out function spaces, private-hire options, group capacities or catering packages. Group bookings, whether either side of the venue can be reserved privately, and any set menu options should be confirmed directly with the venue.
