About The Emerald

The Emerald is a restaurant and bar at 581 Manukau Road, Greenwoods Corner, Epsom, Auckland, owned and operated by hospitality veteran Darren Tolley, with the kitchen led by executive chef Ross Birch. It occupies an iconic 1950s building on the corner, redesigned by CTRL Space around a greenhouse concept — tall ceilings painted in green tones, large windows and abundant natural light, shifting to warm feature lighting in the evening.

The menu is modern bistro cooking with locally sourced ingredients, featuring dishes such as salmon ceviche, salt-and-pepper prawns, steak frites with grass-fed Lansdowne beef, and torched kahawai with green-lip mussels. The restaurant trades seven days, from noon until late, and has been covered by NZ Herald's Viva food section and The Denizen as a notable addition to Epsom's dining scene.

Its heritage building, striking interior design and all-day trading make The Emerald a practical venue for informal group dining and social functions in the Epsom/Greenwoods Corner area, in addition to its role as a neighbourhood restaurant and bar.
