About The Loan and Merc

A heritage grain store on Oamaru's Harbour Street

The Loan and Merc is a restaurant, bar and function venue in the historic Loan and Mercantile building on Oamaru's Harbour Street, at number 14, in the town's Victorian precinct. The building dates to 1882, when it was built as a significant grain store, and retains arched windows, hardwood floors and ceilings and a wood furnace that give the room a rustic, atmospheric character. The venue was established by well-known North Otago restaurateur Fleur Sullivan and opened in 2010.

Dining and drinks

The Loan and Merc serves food throughout the day, with a carvery in the evenings, and is fully licensed with an attached bottle store.

Functions and events

Beyond regular dining, the Loan and Merc is a boutique function space — a notable point for meetings and events. It can seat from around 60 up to 300 guests, is fully licensed, and offers an in-house bespoke catering service. That flexible capacity and heritage setting make it a strong option for conferences, gala dinners, incentive events and celebrations in the Waitaki district. See more Otago venues.
