About

About The Riverhead

The Riverhead is a historic riverside tavern at 33 York Terrace, Riverhead, on the banks of the upper Waitematā Harbour about 25 minutes north-west of central Auckland. Described as New Zealand's oldest riverside tavern, it carries a legacy stretching back around 160 years and is a well-known destination for both dining and events.

The venue is organised into several distinct spaces. The Landing Restaurant offers relaxed river-view dining; the Portage Bar is a laid-back local bar with food and drinks; and the Boat House is a dedicated private function venue. The Boat House is notable as a venue guests can reach by boat, docking at high tide, and offers multiple settings — lawn, gazebos, decks and the building itself — all overlooking the water and surrounding rural landscape. It is available for exclusive hire for weddings, private functions and social events.

For MICE and group organisers, The Riverhead combines heritage character, a waterfront setting and a purpose-built function space, making it well suited to corporate functions, celebratory dinners and incentive outings a short drive from Auckland. It complements the wider selection of Auckland venues north-west of the city.
