Tides Hotel is a 47-room hotel at 66 Trafalgar Street, on the northern end of Nelson's main street where it meets the Maitai River. The riverside setting is the property's defining feature: the restaurant and a number of the rooms look directly over the water, while the city centre, Queens Gardens and Trafalgar Street retail are all within an easy walk.
The hotel traded as Trailways Hotel Nelson until October 2022, when it was rebranded as Tides Hotel. Long-standing Nelson visitors and repeat corporate clients will still know it by the former name.
The hotel has three serviced conference rooms available for business meetings, weddings and private functions. The scale suits day meetings, board and committee sessions, training workshops, small seminars and breakout use rather than large plenary conferences.
The practical advantages for organisers are the walkable central location — delegates can be accommodated on site and still reach the Trafalgar Street dining and retail strip on foot — combined with free parking, which is not a given in the central city. The riverside courtyard and restaurant terrace give a natural setting for a welcome function or an informal group dinner without a transfer.
Tides Bar and Eatery sits beside the Maitai River and serves an a la carte menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, built around locally sourced produce. Having a full-service licensed restaurant on site means conference catering, delegate breakfasts and group dinners can all be handled in house.
Tides Hotel suits small to mid-sized meetings, incentive groups and conference delegate accommodation where a central Nelson address, riverside dining and on-site parking are priorities. It also works well as an overflow or executive-tier accommodation partner for larger conferences held elsewhere among the Nelson venues.
