Tongariro North Domain (also known as Tongariro Domain) is Taupo's central public park, on Tongariro Street bordered by the Waikato River in the heart of town. It is split into a northern area with civic buildings and river access, and a southern recreational area connecting to Riverside Park and the nearby Taupo Museum.
Facilities include the recently renovated Warrior Mountains Playground, the Joan Williamson Rose Garden (established 1979), public tennis courts and bowling greens, and the Lions Express miniature train, which runs on school holidays, public holidays and summer weekends. Entry to the domain is free and accessible at all times.
As an open, central public space, Tongariro North Domain hosts community events, fairs and outdoor gatherings, making it a workable option for outdoor functions, activations or incentive-group activities in central Taupo alongside its everyday role as a public park.
