@Tony's Teppan Yaki Japanese Restaurant is a long-running teppanyaki restaurant at 85 Riccarton Road, Riccarton, Christchurch. It was established on Riccarton Road in 1999 by Bernard Wong and chef Tony Chin, combining Wong's concept with Chin's Japanese cooking background. The restaurant closed after the 2011 earthquake and reopened in 2014 in a larger form.
Layout and capacity. The venue runs four teppanyaki grills, with seating for 28 guests at the teppan tables and a further 36 seats in the main dining area. It also offers an all-you-can-eat teppanyaki option on weekdays, Monday to Thursday.
Published hours are Monday to Thursday 12pm-2.30pm and 5.30pm-9pm; Friday 12pm-2.30pm and 5.30pm-10pm; Saturday 5.30pm-10pm; and Sunday 5.30pm-9pm.
For MICE organisers. Teppanyaki is a group-friendly format by design - diners are seated together around a grill and the cooking is done in front of them, which suits incentive dinners, team celebrations and client hosting. With a stated 64 seats across teppan and dining areas, the venue can accommodate reasonably sized parties, though whether a whole grill or the full restaurant can be reserved exclusively is not stated publicly.
Riccarton is close to Christchurch's western accommodation cluster and a short drive from both the central city and the airport. Bookings are taken through the restaurant's website. Group menus, minimum spends and private-function availability should be confirmed directly with the venue.
