About TSS Earnslaw & Walter Peak Station

The TSS Earnslaw is a historic steamship launched in 1912 and described by operator RealNZ as the oldest commercial passenger-carrying steamship in the Southern Hemisphere. It departs from Queenstown (listed at 88 Beach Street) and crosses Lake Whakatipu to Walter Peak, about 45 minutes away by cruise. The modern Spirit of Queenstown catamaran is an alternative vessel.

Walter Peak

Walter Peak is a working high-country farm at the base of Walter Peak on the western side of the lake, first settled by Europeans in the 1860s. Experiences include farm tours, garden-to-table activities, horse treks, animal interactions and a gourmet BBQ at the Homestead Restaurant.

For groups

The cruise-plus-homestead format suits incentive groups, gala dinners and delegate outings. RealNZ notes limited space on its vessels, advance booking is recommended and it operates year-round except during annual maintenance. Terrain limits access on some farm activities, though BBQ dining has wheelchair access. Group capacities were not published on the page reviewed; confirm with RealNZ.
