Wānaka Golf Club is at 12 Ballantyne Road, on the terrace above Wānaka township, with the course and clubhouse looking north over Lake Wānaka to the surrounding ranges. It is a members' club with an 18-hole course, a café and bar, and a clubhouse that is hired out for private and business functions.
Golf has been played at Wānaka since the early 1900s. A published club history records members playing on a basic nine-hole links on the town commonage — now Pembroke Park — before the club moved to its present site on the terrace above the town, becoming an incorporated society in March 1929. The course was extended to a full eighteen holes in 1967.
The course is open to visitors as well as members. The club runs weekly nine- and eighteen-hole events for men and women through the year, and social and business-house golf over the summer months — the latter is a useful format for corporate groups wanting a low-pressure team activity rather than a full tournament. The café and bar operate most days.
The clubhouse function room is a single large rectangular space with floor-to-ceiling north-facing windows at one end, giving views over the lake, the mountains and the township. The club lists seating for up to 150 guests inside, or 200 standing, with indoor-outdoor flow to a sheltered, sunny patio with outdoor tables and chairs.
The room is available to non-members for weddings, breakfast and luncheon meetings, seminars, dinners, birthdays and other gatherings. The club publishes half-day hire rates — morning and afternoon sessions — on its website, with availability concentrated on days when course competition traffic is lighter; catering and menus are arranged through the club's food and beverage manager. Because availability is shaped around the playing calendar, early enquiry is sensible for dated events.
Suitability for MICE: a practical fit for Wānaka-based conference dinners, seminars, breakfast or lunch meetings, and incentive golf days combining a round with a function in the same building. At up to 150 seated it can hold a mid-sized conference dinner, and the golf-plus-venue combination makes it a straightforward one-stop option for corporate group days in the Wānaka area.
