About The Clay Centre

The Clay Centre is a pottery school at 145 Marua Road, Mt Wellington, Auckland. It opened in July 2019 and describes itself as New Zealand's largest pottery school, with two wheel classrooms and a separate hand-building classroom.

Classes and workshops

The centre runs ongoing hand-building, wheel throwing and sculpture classes for all experience levels, alongside single and multi-day workshops. Regular scheduled sessions include a Friday evening Wheel & Wine, a Saturday morning Coffee & Clay, and a Saturday afternoon Spin class. A separate members' area is available seven days a week for potters developing their own practice.

Group and corporate use

The Clay Centre offers party packages covering corporate team-building experiences as well as private celebrations. Its scale — three classrooms, two of them fitted with wheels — means it can take a group and split it across activities rather than running everyone through a single station.

Suitability

For meetings and events organisers, this is a hands-on, indoor, weather-independent activity that suits team days, incentive programmes, accompanying-persons programmes and conference social sessions. Creative workshops tend to work well for mixed groups because skill level is levelled from the start — nobody arrives good at it — and participants leave with something they made.

Group sizes, session lengths and pricing should be confirmed directly with the centre. Note that fired pieces require collection or shipping after the session, which needs planning for visiting delegates.
