Elder Law Conference 2026: NZLS CLE's annual update, in Wellington and online

MICE editorial — 30 July 2026 Wellington Tier B

A one-day CPD conference for elder law practitioners run by CLE New Zealand Law Society, held in Wellington and online on 30 July 2026.

The Elder Law Conference 2026 runs as a one-day event on Thursday 30 July 2026, from 9.00am to 4.50pm, held in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington and simultaneously online via live web stream. Delivered by CLE New Zealand Law Society, it carries 6.5 CPD hours and gathers elder law practitioners for a practical update on a fast-moving area of practice.

The programme, chaired by Theresa Donnelly of Perpetual Guardian, spans the Law Commission's review of adult decision-making capacity law, working with clients with affected capacity, undue influence, elder abuse, housing options and residential care funding, blended families and the implications of *Rimmer v Wilton*, and changes to retirement village legislation. Two sessions are also offered as stand-alone live broadcasts for those unable to attend the full day.

Who runs it

The conference is organised by CLE New Zealand Law Society, the Continuing Legal Education arm of the New Zealand Law Society Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa. As the country's principal provider of accredited legal education, CLE runs an annual calendar of practitioner conferences across specialist areas; the Elder Law Conference is described by the organiser as a popular, recurring fixture in that programme.

Who it's for

The organiser identifies the core audience as property lawyers, family lawyers and general practitioners, and notes that other professionals who work with older New Zealanders will also benefit. The framing is squarely professional development: attendees are updated on topical legislation and case law and shown how to apply it in practice.

Why it matters for NZ business events

As an association-sector CPD conference with an in-person Wellington footprint plus a national online audience, the event is a representative example of the hybrid professional-development gatherings that anchor much of New Zealand's mid-scale business events activity. The organiser has partnered with Wellington hotels (Novotel, Rydges and Sofitel) for attendee accommodation, indicating an out-of-town delegate draw into the capital, though no single conference venue is named on the event or accommodation pages.
