Wind Energy Summit brings gentailer chiefs and four parties to the Pullman in an election year

MICE editorial — 21 August 2026 Auckland Tier A

The 2026 Aotearoa New Zealand Wind Energy Summit runs 14-16 September at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland, organised by the New Zealand Wind Energy Association. The programme pairs gentailer chief executives and turbine manufacturers with MPs from four parties, and the organiser's sponsorship prospectus put the 2025 edition at more than 230 attendees.

The 2026 Aotearoa New Zealand Wind Energy Summit runs from 14 to 16 September 2026 at the Pullman Hotel on the corner of Waterloo Quadrant and Princes Street, Auckland, according to the event's official site and its listing on the organiser's own site, windenergy.org.nz. The name carried on some listings, "Aotearoa NZ Wind Energy Summit 2026", is shorthand for that official title; the venue and September dates check out.

The association behind it

The summit is organised by the New Zealand Wind Energy Association, a membership body representing utility-scale onshore and offshore wind generation in New Zealand. NZWEA describes itself as a central point of information and collaboration for the sector, working toward the country's net-zero-by-2050 target. The summit is its flagship annual event, held in the latter part of each year, and sits alongside smaller speaker-series and networking events the association runs through the year. Chief executive Kevin Hart signed the 2026 sponsorship prospectus published on the event site.

An election-year programme

The published schedule opens with exhibitor pack-in and a welcome function on the evening of 14 September, followed by full plenary days on 15 and 16 September running 8.30am to 5pm, with a network function and gala dinner on the evening of the 15th.

NZWEA's call for papers, now closed, sought submissions on policy and regulation, market settings, project development and delivery, supply chain technology and innovation, community and iwi partnerships, and energy security. The association notes that 2026 is a general election year and says it has built the programme around energy-security and policy debate accordingly.

Confirmed speakers and panellists listed on the event site span gentailer chief executives from Meridian Energy, Mercury NZ, Genesis Energy and Contact Energy; turbine manufacturers Vestas, Goldwind and Siemens Gamesa; offshore wind developers; grid operator Transpower; legal and engineering advisers; and politicians including Labour energy spokesperson Hon Dr Megan Woods, Green Party list MP Scott Willis and ACT list MP Dr Parmjeet Parmar. Broadcaster Samantha Hayes returns as MC. NZWEA's sponsorship prospectus states the summit drew more than 230 attendees.

The venue and the delegate picture

The confirmed venue address given on the event site is the corner of Waterloo Quadrant and Princes Street, Auckland 1010 — the top of the CBD, beside Albert Park and the University of Auckland. That position places delegates within walking distance of Queen Street's retail and hospitality strip, with a longer, uphill walk down to the Britomart transport interchange; Auckland Airport lies roughly 20 to 25km south.

Those are general geographic facts about the location rather than organiser-supplied logistics: no NZWEA or event page addressed on-site accommodation capacity, function-room capacities or delegate transport arrangements at the time of writing. What the programme does tell you about the delegate load is its shape — an evening welcome function, two full plenary days and a gala dinner means a three-night footprint for out-of-region attendees, concentrated in the upper-CBD hotel cluster.

Why it matters in NZ MICE

As a national sector-association summit rather than a purely commercial conference, the event works as a barometer of investment and policy sentiment in New Zealand's wind sector at a moment when energy security is a live political question. Its multi-day format and CBD hotel venue put it among the more substantial annual sector gatherings on the New Zealand calendar — the kind of event where the exhibition floor and the gala dinner carry as much of the value as the plenary sessions.
