South Island Property People Awards 2026

MICE editorial — 25 September 2026 Christchurch Tier A

The Property Council New Zealand's South Island branch stages its 2026 Property People Awards gala on 15 October at Christchurch's new One New Zealand Stadium (Te Kaha), recognising the people behind the region's property industry in the venue's first year of operation.

The event

On the evening of Thursday 15 October 2026, the South Island property sector gathers in central Christchurch for the South Island Property People Awards, a gala dinner that hands out the year's individual and team honours. The organiser's programme frames the night as one "of connection, celebration, and recognition," built around a pre-dinner cocktail function, a three-course meal and entertainment, running from 6:00pm to 11:30pm.

The awards are presented by Property Council New Zealand, the sector's not-for-profit advocacy body, which describes itself as "the leading advocate for Aotearoa New Zealand's largest industry — property" and says it connects roughly 15,000 property professionals across 610 member companies through regional divisions including the South Island. The South Island People Awards have run since 2015 and are judged by an industry panel.

Entry and recognition are pitched at the whole regional industry — the organiser notes nominations are welcomed "from all corners of the industry — member or not," spanning developers, consultants, project managers, planners and other property professionals. Contested categories include the Greenwood Roche Young Achiever of the Year, the Savills Property Professional of the Year, the Veros Best Team Award, the Women in Property Award and the BESIX Watpac City Shaper Award, alongside the Long Service, Judges' Choice and Tuatahi First Fibre Supreme Excellence awards, which are decided rather than nominated.

Venue and logistics context

The dinner is staged at One New Zealand Stadium (Te Kaha), at 218 Madras Street in Christchurch's central city. As neutral context: the stadium was formally opened on 27 March 2026 and sits on a central-city block bordered by Hereford, Madras, Tuam and Barbadoes streets, within walking distance of the central business district's hotels and hospitality. It is a covered multi-use venue with about 25,000 permanent seats (expanding for concerts) under a fixed steel-and-ETFE roof, and was built to replace the earthquake-damaged Lancaster Park as part of Christchurch's central-city rebuild.

Why it matters in NZ MICE

For the New Zealand business-events market, the booking is notable less for the awards themselves than for the setting: a large-scale civic dinner is among the early corporate uses of a brand-new anchor venue, and a central Christchurch location keeps delegate transport and accommodation within the compact rebuilt city centre.
