Adam Voigt's Building Better People Project lands at Christchurch's Commodore Airport Hotel on 11 September

MICE editorial — 18 August 2026 Christchurch Tier A

Australian education company Real Schools will run a one-day school-leadership workshop, The Building Better People Project, at the Commodore Airport Hotel in Christchurch on Friday 11 September 2026, 9.30am to 3.30pm. It is one of two New Zealand stops on a 12-date Australia–New Zealand tour facilitated by Real Schools founder Adam Voigt.

Christchurch will host one of two New Zealand dates on an Australasian school-leadership workshop tour this September, when Real Schools brings The Building Better People Project to the Commodore Airport Hotel on Friday 11 September 2026. The Eventbrite listing and the organiser's own event page agree on the detail: a single-day, in-person workshop running 9.30am to 3.30pm, facilitated by Real Schools chief executive and founder Adam Voigt, and pitched squarely at principals, deputies, assistant principals and other school leaders.

This is a workshop rather than a conference, and the scale should be read accordingly. Eventbrite describes the format plainly as "6 hours" and "In-person", with a single named person in the line-up. No delegate numbers are published by either the organiser or the aggregator, so any attendance figure would be a guess. What is documented is the shape of the day and the organisation behind it.

What the day covers

The programme published by Real Schools is built around a single argument: that fragmented, individualised school systems are generating workload and inconsistency, and that culture is the lever leaders are under-using. The advertised content runs through what schools are actually for and how that purpose has shifted, the role of culture as the primary driver of behaviour, learning and wellbeing, the case for what Real Schools calls a universal human practice or "RP2.0", how to align staff around shared expectations and language, how cooperative approaches compare with individualised systems, how to reduce complexity through prioritisation rather than adding programmes, and how to engage parents around both learning and character.

The organiser lists a set of take-home materials rather than a conference-style multi-stream agenda: a 90-Day Culture Reset Planner, a Cooperative Culture Audit diagnostic, a Leading Culture Conversations pack, a Parent Partnership Playbook, and a custom GPT tool described as the "Humanity-Inclined School GPT". Real Schools' own framing is that leaders leave with "clarity, a practical framework and a realistic plan", and the FAQ on the site answers the obvious questions from the sector — that the day is practical rather than theoretical, that it is designed not to add to workload, and that leadership teams are encouraged to attend together.

Who is running it

Real Schools is an Australian education business, headquartered across the Tasman and reachable on an Australian 1300 number, whose core business is what it calls School Culture Partnerships alongside professional-learning events. Its About page describes Adam Voigt as a former school principal who worked in what the company characterises as some of Australia's toughest locations, the author of the book Restoring Teaching, and the originator of the RP2.0 restorative-practice methodology. The company states its work has been developed alongside school leaders across both Australia and New Zealand.

Real Schools is a recurring Eventbrite organiser rather than a one-off. Its organiser profile lists earlier workshop collections including Leading Whole School Behaviour Improvement, Restorative Classrooms, and The Art of School Culture Leadership, which places the Christchurch date within an established touring professional-development model rather than a standalone event.

One stop on a twelve-date tour

Christchurch is not a destination event in its own right. The Real Schools event page lists twelve 2026 dates for The Building Better People Project, all running the same 9.30am–3.30pm format: an online session plus Adelaide, Launceston, Brisbane, Darwin, Perth, Auckland, Christchurch, Sydney, Newcastle, Geelong and Melbourne. The two New Zealand stops are back-to-back — Auckland at Rydges Auckland on Thursday 10 September, then Christchurch on Friday 11 September.

That sequencing matters for anyone reading the Christchurch date as a business-events datapoint. It is a South Island stop on a national roadshow, drawing a regional catchment of Canterbury and wider South Island school leaders for a day, rather than a multi-day event bringing sustained delegate nights into the city. The Eventbrite collection page confirms the Christchurch date is still listed as upcoming.

The venue

The Commodore Airport Hotel sits at 449 Memorial Avenue, on the arterial route between Christchurch International Airport and the city, with the hotel stating the airport is minutes away and the CBD roughly a ten-minute drive. It is an independently owned property operated by the Patterson family under Patterson Hospitality, and the hotel's website notes a free 24/7 shuttle service running between the property and the airport.

On the conference side, the hotel advertises nine conference rooms and event venues catering for groups from eight up to 200, with car parking for 150 vehicles. The largest space, the Head of the Avon Combined room, is listed on ChristchurchNZ's venue directory at 215 square metres with capacities of 200 theatre style, 120 classroom and 140 banquet. It splits into Head of the Avon North and South at 110 square metres each, both seating up to 85 theatre style. Smaller options include the 75-square-metre Ward Room adjoining the restaurant, Conference Room Five at 77 square metres, the 64-square-metre Mainland Room on level two, Conference Room Four, the Discovery Lounge and the 12-seat Endeavour Room. ChristchurchNZ records 157 accommodation rooms on site, alongside a heated indoor pool, tennis and pickleball courts, and Patterson's Restaurant. For a single-facilitator workshop of the scale implied by this listing, the mid-sized rooms rather than the combined ballroom are the relevant inventory.

What is confirmed

The directory date and venue both hold up against the primary sources. Eventbrite's structured event data gives a start of 11 September 2026 at 09:30 and an end at 15:30, New Zealand time, at the Commodore Airport Hotel — matching the Christchurch entry on Real Schools' own tour list. Registration is handled through Eventbrite; the organiser's site links to the listing directly.
