ALGIM's 2026 Annual Conference brings local-government ICT professionals to Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre, 17–19 November, themed 'Building Better Together'.
The ALGIM Annual Conference 2026 runs from 17 to 19 November 2026 at the Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre, under the theme "Building Better Together: Accelerating Capability, Enabling Collaboration & Building Resilience". According to ALGIM, the three-day programme is built around six specialist streams of practical learning, discussion and real-world council case studies, with early-bird registrations already open.
The speaker line-up announced by the organiser includes keynotes from Dr Jordan Nguyen, founder of social business Psykinetic, mental-health advocate and documentary filmmaker Jazz Thornton, and journalist Jehan Casinader, with broadcaster Hilary Barry hosting the Awards Dinner.
The conference is organised by ALGIM, the Association of Local Government Information Management. ALGIM describes itself as representing the national and international interests of the information, communication and technology sector across New Zealand's city, district and regional councils, and says it counts 100% of councils as members. Its remit has broadened from its ICT roots to cover IT infrastructure, web and digital, information and records management, customer service and GIS, which it supports through standards, training, awards and this flagship annual event.
ALGIM positions the conference for local government professionals from across Aotearoa New Zealand, spanning the multiple disciplines its six streams cover. The format of streamed sessions plus council case studies and networking is aimed at practitioners and managers inside councils rather than a general public audience.
Tākina sits at 50 Cable Street in Te Aro on Wellington's waterfront, directly opposite the national museum Te Papa. Opened in mid-2023, it is the capital's purpose-built convention and exhibition centre. The venue notes that seven hotels offering around 680 rooms are within a five-minute walk, the closest being QT Wellington, with a further 28 hotels a 5 to 20-minute walk away. Parking is available at the Te Papa car park across Cable Street and the Reading on Wakefield and Barnett Street car parks across Wakefield Street. The central-city waterfront location is a short drive from Wellington Airport.
As a three-day national conference that ALGIM says draws local government professionals from across the country into a major purpose-built Wellington venue, the event is a recurring anchor on the capital's business-events calendar. Its multi-stream, multi-day format and central waterfront setting make it a useful marker of sustained public-sector conference demand in Wellington.
