The 9 September 2026 event at Hilton Auckland is the 2026 New Zealand Debt Capital Market Summit, produced by Australasian fixed-income publisher KangaNews and running 9.00am to 5.00pm on Princes Wharf. The similarly named New Zealand Capital Markets Forum is a separate KangaNews event that was held on 19 March 2026 at NZICC.
The event carried in the MICE directory as the New Zealand Capital Market Forum 2026 is real, is in Auckland and is on 9 September — but it runs under a different name. KangaNews' own event calendar confirms that the 9 September 2026 date at Hilton Auckland belongs to the 2026 New Zealand Debt Capital Market Summit, a single-day conference scheduled from 9.00am to 5.00pm at the hotel on Princes Wharf. The New Zealand Capital Markets Forum is a separate KangaNews production: it was held on 19 March 2026 at NZICC Auckland, in partnership with ANZ, and has already taken place.
The summit is produced by KangaNews, the trading name of BondNews Limited, a company registered in the UK and Australia with its head office in Sydney and a satellite office in Europe. KangaNews positions itself as an information service on the Australasian fixed-income markets, and describes the Auckland summit on its registration page as "the pinnacle event in the New Zealand debt capital market calendar", bringing together issuers, investors and intermediaries.
Registration is handled through the GEVME platform. On that page the organiser lists ANZ, BNZ, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Westpac as headline sponsors, alongside a further supporting-sponsor tier, and names Jeremy Masters as the event contact.
Attendance is strictly by registration, and KangaNews polices the delegate mix unusually tightly. Complimentary passes are reserved for investors, issuers and borrowers, companies seeking financing, and government bodies such as ministries and central banks. The organiser states that people who invest or issue on behalf of third-party clients do not qualify as bona fide investors or issuers, and that issuer, investor and government passes are not available to broker-dealers, traders, structurers, arrangers, lawyers, accountants, trustees or rating-agency analysts. Staff from banks outside the headline-sponsor group who are not in funding or treasury roles are asked not to register at all, and KangaNews says it verifies registration types. The result is a curated room rather than an open-registration trade conference — which matters for venue planning, because the headcount is controlled by the organiser rather than by the market.
A working agenda for the 2026 edition is published as a PDF linked from the event page. The 2025 agenda, still online, shows the shape the summit runs to: registration from 8.20am, welcome at 9.05am, then a chief economists' roundtable featuring the chief economists of ANZ, ASB Bank, BNZ and Westpac, moderated by S&P Global Ratings. That was followed by panels on infrastructure and transition capex, a Q&A on water investment and funding with the New Zealand Local Government Funding Agency and Moody's Ratings, a session on tokenisation and changing market structure, an afternoon presentation and panel on the Reserve Bank's liquidity management consultation, cross-border panels on global rates investors and the Australian dollar market featuring New Zealand Debt Management, and a closing major-bank treasurers panel, with sessions ending at 5.00pm.
The policy weight is not incidental. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand used the September 2025 summit to launch its liquidity management review consultation, with balance sheet policy manager David Craigie presenting and the RBNZ publishing his speech notes and slides afterwards. The RBNZ's director of financial markets, Adam Richardson, then returned to the March 2026 Capital Markets Forum to report the consultation feedback and decisions. For an Auckland business-events calendar, that is a conference that regulators use as a disclosure platform.
Hilton Auckland sits at 147 Quay Street on Princes Wharf, at the northern edge of the CBD. The hotel lists 187 guest rooms and seven meeting rooms with natural light and open decks over the water, 1,164 square metres of total event space and a largest single setup of 1,210 square metres. Its Level 1 walls-out configuration is rated for 700 reception or 400 banquet; the Anchorage Room (697 square metres) is rated at 280 theatre-style, 350 reception or 144 school-room; the combined Aquamarine I–III (355 square metres) is rated at 330 theatre. For a plenary-format summit that holds one room from 9.00am to 5.00pm with catering breaks, that gives the organiser a main auditorium plus adjacent space for registration, sponsor display and refreshment breaks without moving delegates off the level.
Delegate movement is the wharf's advantage. Princes Wharf projects into the Waitematā a short walk from Viaduct Harbour, Commercial Bay and the Britomart transport interchange, so delegates arriving by train, bus or ferry finish the journey on foot. Accommodation is available in the building itself, with the wider Quay Street and Viaduct hotel cluster within walking distance — relevant for an audience that travels in from Wellington and Sydney. Auckland Airport lies on the southern edge of the city, making the airport leg the longest part of the day for out-of-town delegates and one reason a 9.00am start on a Wednesday tends to imply a night before.
KangaNews has now anchored this summit at Hilton Auckland for four consecutive editions — 13 September 2023, 11 September 2024, 10 September 2025 and 9 September 2026 — each a Wednesday in the second week of the month. That kind of repeat, same-venue, same-week booking is the quiet backbone of Auckland's business-events calendar: predictable single-day corporate conferences with a strong out-of-town and trans-Tasman component, rather than headline international congresses.
It also sits inside a wider New Zealand programme from a single Australian publisher. KangaNews has used NZICC for the 2026 Capital Markets Forum, the JW Marriott for the 2025 Forum, and Westpac Britomart for its New Zealand Sustainable Finance Summit — three or more Auckland venues activated each year by one organiser, with the September Hilton date the largest of them.
