CFA Society New Zealand Investment Summit 2026: geopolitics and global markets at the JW Marriott

MICE editorial — 06 October 2026 Auckland Tier A

CFA Society New Zealand's half-day Investment Summit returns to the JW Marriott Auckland on 4 November 2026, with a 'Geopolitics & Global Markets' programme built around a keynote from strategist Hagai M. Segal and panels of leading NZ and global investment managers.

A half-day summit on geopolitics and global markets

CFA Society New Zealand will hold its 2026 Investment Summit on Wednesday 4 November 2026, from 8.30am to 1.00pm, at the JW Marriott Auckland. Billed by the organiser as a premium half-day executive forum, the summit runs under the theme "Geopolitics & Global Markets" and examines how geopolitical conflict, great-power competition, artificial intelligence, trade fragmentation and energy security are reshaping markets and investment strategy. The morning opens with registration and networking from 8.00am, followed by a welcome from MC Liam Dann and a keynote from geopolitical strategist Hagai M. Segal.

Who runs it

The summit is organised by CFA Society New Zealand, the local member society of the global CFA Institute. According to the society, it has 616 members (March 2026) — mostly CFA charterholders alongside a smaller group of Associate members — and supports several hundred CFA candidates sitting exams in New Zealand. Its stated purpose is to lead the country's investment profession by promoting high standards of ethics, education and professional excellence.

Who it's for and what's on

The summit is aimed at investment professionals and leaders across New Zealand's investment community. After the Segal keynote, a New Zealand Investment Leaders Panel on positioning portfolios in a more complex world features Segal with Zoe Wallis, Qing Ding and Rosseau Lötter. A Global Investment Perspectives session brings in Joran Laird (T. Rowe Price) and Dr David Allen (Plato Investment Management), followed by a panel sponsored by Fisher Funds with Laird, Andrew Bascand, Ashley Gardyne and Mark Riggall. The event closes with the Investment Leaders Lunch.

Venue and logistics

The JW Marriott Auckland is located at 22–26 Albert Street in the Auckland CBD — the property that reopened under the JW Marriott brand in 2024, formerly the Stamford Plaza Auckland. For context, the hotel offers seven event rooms and roughly 614 square metres of event space, anchored by a pillarless ballroom that can seat up to 280 theatre-style, 220 for a banquet or 300 for a reception, which comfortably suits a half-day summit of this scale. Its central Albert Street position puts it within walking distance of Auckland's financial district, the waterfront and public transport, and the hotel provides on-site accommodation for out-of-town attendees.

Why it matters in NZ MICE

An annual summit from CFA Society New Zealand is an anchor date on the country's financial-sector events calendar, drawing fund managers, analysts and advisers into Auckland's CBD for a concentrated half-day of programming. For the business-events sector it is a repeat, professionally organised corporate conference tied to a recognised international credentialing body and a flagship CBD hotel venue — the kind of recurring, high-calibre gathering that underpins Auckland's standing as New Zealand's primary MICE destination.
