JW Marriott Auckland

JW Marriott Auckland is a 286-room hotel at 22-26 Albert Street in the Auckland CBD, close to the Viaduct Harbour and the Sky Tower precinct. The building previously operated as the Stamford Plaza and, before that, as the Regent of Auckland - the city's first five-star hotel when it opened in 1984. JW Marriott, part of Marriott International, took over the property following its purchase in 2022 and completed a staged renovation reported at around $35 million.

Meetings & Events

The hotel offers seven event rooms totalling 614 sqm of space, with capacity for up to 400 guests in its largest venue. Its pillarless JW Marriott Ballroom has a 4.1-metre ceiling and holds up to 400 guests cocktail-style or 220 banquet-style; movable walls allow it to be divided into three equal meeting rooms, and it opens onto a complimentary pre-function area. The ballroom is fitted with a 7-metre-wide, high-resolution LED screen plus two further high-definition screens, alongside enhanced soundproofing and acoustics - suited to conferences, gala dinners and awards ceremonies as well as smaller breakout meetings.

Dining

The hotel's signature restaurant, Trivet, is led by head chef Wallace Mua and focuses on New Zealand produce; it opened in August 2024 as part of the property's renovation. Forum Bar, the lobby bar, serves coffee and light bites through the day and cocktails and wine in the evening, and JW Kitchen offers breakfast and dinner alongside JW Lounge & Bar for all-day drinks.

Facilities

A 24-hour fitness centre features Technogym equipment and an indoor heated pool overlooking the harbour, open from 7am to 9pm. Valet parking is available on-site at a daily charge, though spaces are limited.

History

As the successor to the Regent of Auckland (1984) and later the Stamford Plaza, the building has a long history as one of Auckland's flagship five-star hotels, refreshed for its 2024 relaunch as New Zealand's first JW Marriott.
