The New Zealand Events Association's national conference returns to Auckland's NZICC on 4-5 August 2026 with 40+ speakers and around 400 delegates, closing with the black-tie NZEA Event Awards gala.
Eventing the Future (ETF) 2026, formally the National Events Conference, is confirmed for two full days on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 August 2026 at Auckland's New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC), 101 Hobson Street in the CBD. The organiser's website describes it as "the event for the events industry," with over 40 speakers across the two days and around 400 event professionals expected — billed as the biggest ETF yet.
ETF is the official conference of the New Zealand Events Association (NZEA), the sector body for New Zealand's events industry. According to the organiser, the programme opens with a welcome from the NZEA Chair and General Manager, and Day Two includes the NZEA Annual General Meeting over lunch. The conference doubles as the platform for the NZEA New Zealand Event Awards, whose gala evening closes the second day.
The conference targets the full breadth of the events sector — suppliers, local and central government event teams, event owners and agencies, venues, and corporate events teams. NZEA's own ETF25 audience profile put suppliers at 31%, local and central government at 26%, event owners and agencies at 20% and venues at 10%, with 38% of delegates being company decision-makers and 43% drawn from Auckland.
The 2026 agenda spans audience engagement, event marketing, city event strategy, sponsorship, temporary traffic management, event production, medical planning, data and AI in events, and new venues. It features an address from the Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, a ministerial update, a fireside chat with industry figures, and a closing keynote. Networking is structured through the Event Exchange marketplace on the evening of Day One (5:00-7:00pm), and the programme culminates in the black-tie NZEA Event Awards 2026 gala on Day Two, with pre-dinner drinks from 6:00pm, seating from 7:00pm and a close at 11:00pm.
The NZICC is a purpose-built convention centre in the heart of Auckland's CBD at 101 Hobson Street, within the SkyCity precinct. As factual context, the venue offers extensive conference capacity and sits amid a dense cluster of CBD hotels, with Auckland Airport roughly 20km south of the city centre. The central location places delegates within walking distance of the SkyCity hotels and the wider CBD accommodation base.
As NZEA's flagship national gathering, Eventing the Future is the anchor annual convening point for New Zealand's business-events and wider events community, bringing organisers, venues, government commissioners and suppliers into one room. Its co-location with the NZEA Event Awards and the AGM makes it the sector's most significant domestic industry moment on the calendar, and its 2026 staging at the NZICC underscores Auckland's role as the country's principal MICE hub.
