A two-day familial cancer genetics congress (6-7 Nov 2026) run by the NZ Familial Breast & Ovarian Cancer Trust at the Cancer Society in Papanui, Christchurch, with a full clinical programme, named speakers and a parallel public Community Day.
The New Zealand Familial Breast & Ovarian Cancer Trust (NZFBOC) holds its third Changing Landscapes conference in Otautahi Christchurch on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November 2026, at the Cancer Society on Langdons Road in Papanui. The Friday conference day covers the clinical and genetic landscape of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, with Saturday given over to two hands-on workshops and a public Community Day running in parallel in both Christchurch and Auckland.
The professional programme moves from genetic risk and testing through surveillance, risk-reducing surgery, targeted therapies and the psychological dimensions of inherited cancer risk. Named speakers include Prof Ian Campbell, Prof Karyn Paringatai, A/Prof Yoland Antill, Dr Annette Lasham, Mr Jeremy Simcock, Dr Megan Ogilvie and Dr Kumari Valentine, with genetic counsellors Cindy Zaitsoff and Emma Felix leading sessions on tumour-first testing and mainstreaming. The day closes with a chaired panel drawing the speakers together.
The conference is organised by the NZ Familial Breast & Ovarian Cancer Trust, a charitable trust working across advocacy, education, research and peer support (including its Gift of Knowledge support network) for whanau affected by hereditary cancer across Aotearoa. Registration and logistics are handled by professional conference organiser Conference Innovators. This is the Trust's third edition of the event, giving it an established track record.
The Friday conference and Saturday workshops are pitched at the professional and clinical community: geneticists, genetic counsellors, oncologists, surgeons, nurses and researchers working in familial cancer. Registration is offered in person, virtually and at a student rate. A separate Community Day on 7 November serves individuals, families and supporters, with expert presentations, open discussion and shared lived experience, available in person and online.
The event is hosted at the Cancer Society, Otautahi Christchurch, 74 Langdons Road, Papanui, Christchurch 8053. Papanui is a northern Christchurch suburb a short drive from the city centre and close to Christchurch International Airport, with Langdons Road and the adjacent Northlands precinct well served by arterial roads and bus routes. Visiting delegates typically base themselves in central Christchurch accommodation and travel the few kilometres north, or stay nearer the airport and Papanui. These transport and accommodation notes are general context only.
Changing Landscapes is a small but genuine recurring medical and scientific congress anchored in Christchurch, drawing clinical specialists and researchers from across New Zealand and visiting international speakers. Its hybrid in-person-and-virtual format and parallel public day reflect the kind of specialist, cause-led gatherings that add steady professional-visitor activity to the Christchurch events calendar outside the large-conference tier.
