GP26, the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners' annual Conference for General Practice, runs 31 July - 1 August 2026 (plus a 30 July pre-conference workshop day) at Auckland's new NZICC, with registrations open and the programme live.
The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners will hold its 2026 Conference for General Practice, branded GP26, at Auckland's New Zealand International Convention Centre from Friday 31 July to Saturday 1 August 2026, preceded by a pre-conference CME workshop day on Thursday 30 July. Registrations are open and the full programme is live on the event website.
Framed around the Matariki theme of reflecting on the past while shaping the future, GP26 positions itself as a gathering point for the primary-care sector as it moves into what the organisers describe as a new era shaped by technology, interdisciplinary connectedness and matauranga Maori.
The conference is delivered by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP), the professional body and standard-setting college for general practice in Aotearoa New Zealand. According to Conference Innovators, the Christchurch-based professional conference organiser appointed by the College, it has managed the RNZCGP annual conference and exhibition since 2002 - a period in which attendance grew from 350 delegates in 2002 to more than 950 in 2021.
GP26 is aimed at general practitioners, registrars, rural and urban primary-care teams, and the wider health stakeholders and leaders who work alongside them. The organisers say headline themes include advances in artificial intelligence, digital tools, new models of multidisciplinary care, and the interface between indigenous knowledge and primary care, alongside a Fellowship and Awards Ceremony and a social and wellbeing stream. A pre-conference CME workshop day on 30 July extends the education programme ahead of the two main conference days.
The conference is confirmed for the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) at 101 Hobson Street in Auckland Central - New Zealand's largest purpose-built convention centre, which opened in 2026. Its CBD location places delegates within walking distance of a dense cluster of hotels and the SkyCity precinct, and roughly 20 to 25 minutes by road from Auckland Airport, easing arrivals for the national and trans-Tasman audience a GP congress draws. The organisers maintain a dedicated accommodation page to help delegates book within the central-city cluster around the venue.
GP26 is one of a run of large medical and scientific congresses anchoring the NZICC's opening year. Industry body IAPCO reports the centre has secured several of Australasia's largest association medical conferences for 2026, underlining the venue's role in drawing high-value, knowledge-sector delegates into Auckland's CBD. A recurring national congress of this scale, with a live registration site and an established PCO relationship spanning more than two decades, is exactly the kind of anchor event that signals a maturing large-format convention market in New Zealand.
