Engineering New Zealand's bridge and geotechnical communities co-host a two-day national conference at the New Zealand International Convention Centre on 24-25 August 2026, building on the 2024 NZTA-hosted event in Hamilton.
The inaugural Bridge and Geotechnical Conference 2026 runs Monday 24 to Tuesday 25 August 2026 at the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) in Auckland, according to the official conference site. It is a two-day event, with the programme showing Day 1 from 8.15 to 18.30 followed by a Conference Dinner, and Day 2 from 8.15 to 17.15. An informal Meet & Greet is scheduled the evening before, on Sunday 23 August. The conference builds on the 2024 event hosted by NZTA in Hamilton, which the organisers describe as the momentum this first standalone edition continues.
The conference is co-hosted by the NZ Bridge Engineering Technical Society (BETS) and the New Zealand Geotechnical Society (NZGS). Per the official site, BETS was established in 2024 as a Technical Interest Group under Engineering New Zealand, with a stated vision of "Enhancing Bridge Engineering in New Zealand," representing professionals across bridge design, construction, asset management, training and research. NZGS is Engineering New Zealand's affiliated body for soil mechanics, rock mechanics and engineering geology. The convenor is Rudolph Kotze. The event is delivered in collaboration with NZTA, KiwiRail and Engineering New Zealand, and is managed by Conferences & Events Ltd. Note that an earlier directory record listed the host as NZSEE; the official and organiser sources instead confirm BETS and NZGS as co-hosts.
The organisers position the conference as a national platform for consultants, constructors and clients, a framing the NZICC listing echoes by tagging it for industry professionals. The stated programme priorities span seismic resilience, sustainability, and "doing more with less" in asset management and new design, alongside technical sessions, networking and exposure to emerging technologies. The organisers say they have secured internationally recognised keynote speakers plus leading experts from New Zealand and Australia. An early-bird registration deadline of 29 June 2026 was among the key milestones on the official site.
The conference site confirms the venue as the NZICC at 101 Hobson Street, Auckland Central, in the CBD. Per the venue page, the NZICC is set to open in February 2026 and is described as New Zealand's largest and most versatile conference, exhibition and entertainment space, with a 32,500sqm gross floor area, a 2,850-seat theatre, 3,000-plus person conference capacity and 33 meeting spaces. The organisers note the centre sits within walking distance of more than 4,500 hotel rooms of 4-star-plus quality, as well as Auckland's waterfront, galleries and dining. The site's central location supports delegate movement on foot and connects to Auckland's public transport network; Auckland Airport lies roughly 20km south of the CBD, the standard gateway for domestic and trans-Tasman arrivals relevant to a New Zealand and Australian audience.
As an inaugural, discipline-specific national conference committing to Auckland's newest convention centre in its opening year, the event is a notable early anchor tenant for the NZICC and a signal of the venue's draw for professional-association business events. Its two-day format, evening social functions and cross-Tasman speaker programme place it squarely in the mid-scale conference segment that underpins NZ MICE activity in the main centres.
