PCOs & DMCs in Auckland

MICE editorial — 02 August 2026 Auckland Tier A

Auckland PCOs, DMCs and event organisers — what each does, and how to choose the right conference partner for your event.

PCOs and DMCs in Auckland

Auckland is home to most of New Zealand's professional conference and event industry. MICE lists twenty-five Auckland-based PCOs, DMCs and event organisers — the specialists who plan, manage and deliver conferences and incentive programmes. Browse them all on the PCO & DMC directory.

What's the difference between a PCO and a DMC?

  • A PCO (Professional Conference Organiser) manages the end-to-end delivery of a conference — venue sourcing, registration, programme, budgets, speakers and logistics. Auckland PCOs in MICE include Arinex, Only Events, The Events Group, SMC Events, Motive Events and Events Direct.
  • A DMC (Destination Management Company) designs and runs the on-the-ground experience for visiting groups — itineraries, activities, transport and incentive programmes. Auckland DMCs include Ovation New Zealand, Southern Crossings, Liberty New Zealand, ATS Pacific New Zealand and Incentive Solutions.
  • Event organisers such as The Event Refinery, Seven Events Ltd and Kiio handle corporate events, launches and functions.

Some companies do more than one of these roles, and for a large international conference you might engage both a PCO and a DMC.

When do you need one?

  • Engage a PCO when you're running a multi-day conference with registration, a programme and a budget to manage, and you don't have in-house event staff.
  • Engage a DMC when you're hosting visiting or international delegates and need someone with local knowledge to build the social programme, activities and transport.
  • For a smaller corporate function, an event organiser may be all you need.

How to choose

  • Relevant experience — look for organisers who have run events of your size and type.
  • Local knowledge — an Auckland-based partner knows the venues, suppliers and incentive operators.
  • Services included — confirm exactly what's covered, from registration to on-site management.
  • Capacity — check they can handle your delegate numbers; browse venues by size on the capacities page.

Shortlist two or three, brief them on your goals, dates and budget, and compare their proposed approach. For the wider planning picture, see the events calendar.

Frequently asked

What is the difference between a PCO and a DMC?

Do I need both a PCO and a DMC?

For a large international conference you might engage both — a PCO to run the conference and a DMC to deliver the social and destination programme. Smaller events often need only one.

How do I choose the right conference organiser?

Look for relevant experience with events of your size, local Auckland knowledge, a clear list of included services, and capacity to handle your delegate numbers. Shortlist a few and compare their proposed approach.

What does a DMC do for an incentive programme?

A DMC builds and runs the itinerary for visiting groups — activities, transport, dining and rewards — using local supplier relationships to deliver a seamless destination experience.
