A live, ranked list of Wellington restaurants holding a Google rating of 4.7 or higher — the capital's best-reviewed rooms for conference dinners and group hosting.
Wellington earns its reputation as a dining city partly through density. The capital's hospitality is concentrated into a walkable core, which means a conference delegate can leave a session at Te Papa or on the waterfront and be seated somewhere excellent within ten minutes on foot. For event organisers, that compactness is a genuine planning advantage — it removes transport from the social programme almost entirely, and it makes a dine-around across several restaurants a practical option rather than a logistical exercise.
A 4.7 Google rating is a tight cut, and in a market this competitive it identifies rooms that are consistently good rather than occasionally brilliant. The trade-off, in Wellington more than most New Zealand cities, is size. The capital's dining scene skews towards small, owner-operated rooms, and the very best-reviewed of them may seat forty in total. That is wonderful for a leadership dinner and impossible for a conference of two hundred. If your group is large, plan a dine-around across several venues, or look for the smaller number of restaurants and function-capable spaces that can take a full group in one room.
The list below ranks real Wellington restaurants in the MICE record by their current Google rating. Read the review count alongside the score, and treat the order as a snapshot — ratings shift. Confirm group capacity, minimum spend and availability directly with each restaurant, and browse the full restaurants directory or the venues directory if you need a room that can host a presentation as well as a meal.

It is one of the best in the country for it. The hospitality core is compact and walkable, so you can split a large group across three or four restaurants within a few blocks of each other without needing transport, and reconvene afterwards at a single bar or venue.
Many of the capital's best-regarded rooms are small — often 40 to 80 seats in total. Private dining rooms for 10 to 30 are common; single-room capacity for 100 or more is much rarer. Ask about maximum seated group size before you get attached to a venue.
Book each restaurant with a confirmed head count and a set or limited menu, brief every group on their venue and walking route before they leave, keep the walk under ten minutes, and set a clear reconvene time and place. Assign a host to each group.
It can. The capital's wind is real, and a walking dine-around in July is a different proposition from one in February. Keep walks short, have a taxi or shuttle contingency, and tell delegates in advance to bring a coat.
For weekday groups outside peak season, a few weeks is usually workable. For December, for parliamentary sitting weeks when the city is busy, and for weekend nights at the best-known rooms, book months in advance.
