About Auckland Co-op Taxis

Auckland Co-op Taxis — formally the Auckland Co-operative Taxi Society — has been operating in Auckland since 1947 and is the city's original driver-owned taxi co-operative. It runs the largest taxi fleet in Auckland, around 700 white late-model vehicles identified by the Blue Bubble roof sign, and covers central, north, east, south and west Auckland along with Pukekohe. The call centre operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Fleet

The fleet is split into three practical categories. Sedans are licensed to carry four passengers and form the bulk of the fleet. Maxi vans are licensed for six to eleven passengers and need to be booked in advance to guarantee availability — the sensible choice for moving a small delegate group or a speaker party with luggage. Total Mobility vans are fitted with wheelchair lifts and staffed by specially trained drivers; the company is part of the Total Mobility Scheme and Total Mobility cards are accepted across all vehicle types, which matters for conferences with delegates who hold them.

All vehicles are registered and carry a current Certificate of Fitness, with condition monitored through the COF process and the society's own quality assurance programme and driver demerit point structure. The co-operative has been phasing out petrol-only cars since 2008 as part of its environmental policy.

Airport work

For arrivals at Auckland Airport, a pre-booked driver will meet passengers at Arrivals at no extra charge. Otherwise there is a rank outside Door 4 at the Domestic Terminal, and pick-up in lane one of the Transport Pick-up Zone for on-demand taxis at the International Terminal. Departures drop off inside the International transport hub in the commercial drop-off lane.

Conferences and events

The co-operative has a defined event management service. For a large function it will set up a taxi rank on site and supply a taxi marshal at no cost to the organiser. The marshal keeps a steady flow of cars arriving, stays in constant contact with the call centre to direct available drivers to the venue, and can also hand out voucher cards to guests or staff as they leave — giving a controlled, account-billed way to get delegates home safely after an evening function. To arrange this, organisers supply the event finish time and date, guest numbers and the number of taxis required.

Corporate accounts give monthly invoicing for nationwide travel plus a range of reporting, so travel can be collated, tracked and expensed through a single account. Reporting and invoicing are administered by partner company TaxiCharge, and an account manager stays in contact with business clients. Organisations with high booking volumes can arrange streamlined booking processes.

Bookings can be made by calling 09 300 3000, through the YourRide app (which also accepts TaxiCharge), by emailing the 24/7 quality desk and call centre — the route the company recommends for pre-booking a large group — or from a rank.

On safety, the society is prequalified for OHS/WHS capability under CM3 and applies driver vetting, fatigue management and log keeping, English language and local area knowledge requirements, in-vehicle security cameras and clear driver identification. It is a long-standing, high-volume option within a wider Auckland transport plan.
